FAQs

Boarding Questions

  • May I come visit your facility to take a tour?

Absolutely! We always encourage scheduling a tour so that you can experience our facility first hand. We welcome tours Monday – Friday during normal business hours excluding the first and last hour of the day. The best time to come for a tour is in the afternoon. Please call to arrange an appointment for Saturday tours.

  • Should I bring my dog’s food from home?

We always recommend bringing your dog’s food from home to avoid any upset tummies due to a sudden change in diet. We can provide Diamond dry dog food in a chicken and rice formula to any guests that would prefer to use our “house” food.

  • My dog is currently taking medication; will you be able to administer them while they are staying with you?

Absolutely! We routinely have guests that are taking medications and it is no problem to administer them. At the time of check in you will be able to fill out a medication administration form providing us the name(s) of the medication, dosage amounts, and how many times a day they will need to be given. The fee for administering medication is $0.50 per dosage and $5.00 per injectable medication.

  • May I bring my pet’s bed from home?

Unfortunately we do not permit bedding brought from home in order to prevent pests such as fleas from being brought into the facility.

  • Do you have bedding available to rent?

We have two comfortable bedding options available such as fleece blankets, and a thicker plush kennel liner which we refer to as the “deluxe” option.  The fleece blankets are included in the daily boarding rate and the "deluxe bed" is available to rent at an additional daily fee.

  • What activities do you offer for my dog(s) during their stay with you?

We offer nature walks, and play times. Each activity is designed to cater to the needs of each individual dog. Some dogs like to run and fetch ball, therefore play times are best suited for them. Others like to go out for a walk on a leash with one of our highly trained staff members and just stroll across our acreage.

  • I have more than one dog; can I board them together?

Yes, we are able to accommodate multiple pets of the same family staying together. If you have medium or slightly larger breed dogs, the limit per kennel is two. Giant breeds near 100 lbs or more would need to board one per kennel. In some cases we will allow three dogs of the same family to board together but they all must be less than 20 lbs. Pets of the same family can always get together for playtime and walking activities.

  • How do I make a reservation?

You can make a reservation at Wakefield Kennel either by using the reservation tab located at home page or by calling our office at (434) 973-5171. If you have not received a confirmation back to your email address within 24 hours please call our office to verify your request has been booked. If you need to make a reservation less than 72 hours in advance, please contact us by phone directly to ensure that we have space. During the summer months (Memorial Day – Labor Day) we recommend booking at least one to two weeks in advance. We recommend booking any reservations that fall around a major holiday to be booked well in advance (July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)

  • Do you require a deposit to book a reservation?

We require a non-refundable deposit to make a reservation over these four major holidays:

    - July 4th

    Christmas

    Years

There is a $100 per pet deposit for July 4th, $200 per pet for Thanksgiving, $250 per pet for Christmas and New Years.  Please call our office if you are not sure if your reservation falls during a period of dates that requires deposit.  NOTE:  Thanksgiving and Christmas reservations have a minimum stay requirement.  Any reservation falling through Thanksgiving requires a 4 day minimum stay and a reservation falling through Christmas and New Years requires a 7 day minimum stay.  We do not book any reservations in advance of more than a week prior to both Thanksgiving and Christmas than do not meet our minimum stay requirement.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

There is no penalty for canceling a reservation during our off season. If you need to cancel your reservation during the week of July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years the penalty is forfeiture of your deposit.

Grooming Questions

  • How much does grooming cost?

Grooming prices will vary depending on the size, breed, hair type, coat condition, cooperation of your dog, and the overall styling desired.  One of our groomers would be happy to discuss general pricing with you over the phone.  For a precise quote one of our groomers would need to see your dog in person, assess their coat condition, and discuss preferred styling options.

  • How often should I have my dog groomed?

There are many factors taken into account that would determine how often to have your dog groomed such as their breed and coat (example: long vs. short or thick vs. thin). Our typical recommendation would be once every 4 to 6 weeks, but each dog is very different and has specific needs. One of our groomers would be happy to discuss a proper grooming schedule to best suit your dog.
